Meet the baker

I'm Katrina, the babe of Butter Babe! I bake vanilla bean sugar cookies decorated with vanilla royal icing--all from scratch in my home kitchen. Cookies come individually heat sealed, unless noted. Payment will be due to confirm order. Local pick-up in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. 

It was Christmas 2020. I was pregnant with my firstborn, my husband was deployed, and I was looking for a hobby. My favorite thing to do was cook with family and friends while listening to music, sipping wine (not preggers), talking and laughing. Home cooked meals just hit different. It's like a cozy hug. Ironically, desserts were not my forte. With hubby gone, cooking for one just wasn't appealing. I am not a fan of eating the same leftovers 4 days in a row. Amid my social media scrolling, I would see videos of cookies being flooded with icing. It was so soothing. I thought, I could do that! Well, try to, at least. So  I watched a couple of tutorials and made do with what I already had at home. I remember bagging my icing in ziploc baggies because I was not willing to make any investment. Needless to say, I was hooked and took to Etsy to buy all the things. Initially, I wanted to make sure I had my cookie and icing recipe perfected because who wants cookies that are pretty but taste like cardboard? I certainly do not, and would not want to be associated with that. So for fun and practice, I'd bring samples to coworkers and friends for feedback. With a lot of support, interest, and encouragement, I started to offer custom cookies and Butter Babe was born.

Born in the Philippines, raised in Maryland, presently residing in Florida. I worked in the service industry for many years in DC, MD, & VA. Eventually, I became a registered nurse. I worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the hospitals and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the office. During my 2nd pregnancy, I made the decision to stay home full time. I can honestly say that I miss my career, but I would not give up being home with my babies! I'm never going to get this time back with them, and I can always revisit the workforce in the future. Our sons are 13 months apart!! We are soaking in every moment and trying to survive until their next nap. And here I am, hot mess express, the one who thought it was a good idea to get a 2nd puppy during my 1st pregnancy, adding another baby to our lives: my cookie company :)

BIG shout-out to my man, baby daddy, hubby--he's my biggest fan and I wouldn't even be able to have time to think for myself, let alone try to run a business, if not for his support and all he does for our family!
